Every day, I check my GHL app to monitor system health, observe my live stocks, clean the tank glass, and feed my fish and corals.
Weekly, I test the water parameters, refill the ATO with RO water and other necessary additives, inspect all equipment to ensure they are functioning correctly, and scrape the tank walls if needed. I perform water changes of about 20-30 gallons and I also dose MB7 bacteria from Brightwell aquatics.
I do freshwater changes of about 20-30 gallons weekly to maintain water quality.
I routinely clean the power heads during water changes, change the UV bulb once a year, swap my return pump with the backup every six months, and clean the lights from salt creep every month.
I aim for the following water parameters: Temperature at 78°F, pH between 8.2 and 8.5, specific gravity between 1.025 to 1.026, NO3 at 15-20ppm, Calcium at 430-500, Alkalinity between 7.5-8.5, Magnesium at 1400, PO4 at 0.06, with Ammonia and nitrites at 0.
I use Red Sea Blue Bucket salt mix, which aligns closely with the parameters I strive for in my tank.
I individually dose the big three using Red Sea Foundation ABC, utilizing the GHL doser 2.1 to administer the nutrients daily, supplemented with Avast Marine's Kalkwasser mix in my automatic top-off (ATO) water.
I feed my fish 8-10 cubes of frozen food daily along with sheets of green and purple seaweed. My corals receive spot feeding at least three times a week, in addition to broadcast feeding using Red Sea AB+, Easy Reef SPS Evo, Easy Reef SPS Booster, and Algae Barn phytoplankton.
I use a Red Sea Reefmat 1200 filtration system along with live rocks, Marine Pure blocks, and Polyp Lab Genesis rocks to provide excellent biological filtration.
I dose 25ml of Red Sea NoPox daily and utilize a Rain 2 algae scrubber from Santa Monica to manage nutrient levels in my tank.
I spot feed my corals at least three times a week, while I broadcast feed during the rest of the week.
I primarily select corals based on their color and affordability, ensuring to choose types that won’t overrun the tank.
