For a nano reef aquarium like Lalani's 10-gallon setup, it's recommended to perform weekly water changes. In this case, a 2-gallon water change is done weekly using RO/DI water mixed with Oceanic salt. Regular water changes help maintain water quality and nutrients for your corals and fish.
To maintain alkalinity, Lalani adds baking soda to her tank regularly to keep it around 10 dKH. It's crucial to monitor and adjust alkalinity to prevent stress on corals and maintain overall tank health.
Cleaning the glass can be done with a scraper or mag-float magnet cleaner. Lalani cleans her tank's glass twice a week or whenever algae buildup is visible. It's important to do this to ensure maximum light penetration for photosynthetic corals.
Lalani feeds her fish a small pinch of Formula One flakes once a day. Ensure to provide a varied diet that's suitable for the inhabitants in your reef tank to support their health.
In a 10-gallon reef tank, you can keep various types of corals. Lalani has success with soft corals such as Zoanthids, Green Star Polyps, and Rhodactis, as well as LPS like Hammer Coral, and SPS such as Porites and Acropora. Be sure to match the lighting and water conditions suitable for the corals you wish to keep.
Algae can be managed through regular water changes, maintaining good nutrient levels, and adding clean-up crews such as turbo snails, which help keep algae growth in check. Lalani used weekly water changes and introduced turbo snails to control cyano and fluffy pink algae.
