For a nano reef tank like the one described, it is recommended to perform a water change every week. In this case, a 2.5-gallon water change is carried out weekly using Catalina Real Ocean Water from the local fish store. Regular water changes help maintain water quality and provide essential nutrients.
The ideal salinity level for a reef tank is typically stable at 1.025. Maintaining a consistent salinity is crucial for the health of reef inhabitants.
The fish should be fed every other day with a quality marine flake or pellet food, while corals and invertebrates should be fed a mixture of frozen reef food once a week. This helps to ensure all tank inhabitants receive adequate nutrition.
The ideal temperature for this reef tank ranges from 77 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit. A heater, like the Eheim Jager 200w, can be used to maintain temperature, and a chiller, such as the Current USA Prime Chiller, is installed for use during summer months to prevent overheating.
The lighting system used is the AI Sol Super Blue LED, which provides full-spectrum lighting necessary for coral growth and health.
The recommended photoperiod for the tank includes: 11:30 AM for 60 minutes (W055/B060/R050), 4:00 PM for 60 minutes (W065/B055/R045), 8:00 PM for 35 minutes (W026/B043/R055), and 9:10 PM for 40 minutes (W000/B002/R001). This gradual change in light helps to simulate natural daylight cycles.
For aquascaping in a nano reef tank, it is important to use egg crate under live rock for stability. Keep a 1-inch sand bed for beneficial bacteria, and arrange live rock to create hiding spots and open spaces for corals. Ensuring good flow around the rocks is essential for coral health.
When moving the tank, siphon out half of the tank's water into a large container, then remove corals and smaller rocks. Carefully catch all livestock and finally move the live rock. It is advised to discard the old sand bed and set up a new one at the new location before placing everything back into the tank.
