Daily maintenance includes feeding your fish a mixture of selcon enriched PE frozen Mysis, cyclopeeze, nutramar ova, and Rod's food. You may also want to throw in a pinch of Formula One pellets whenever you pass by the tank. Additionally, dosing is done daily with 5 ml of each part of B-Ionic two-part and 10 ml of Kent Tech M.
Every 2-3 days, you should clean the glass to maintain visibility, empty the skimmer cup to ensure efficient operation, and switch out the filter socks to keep your tank water clean.
Weekly maintenance involves performing a water change of 2.5-3 gallons, which helps to keep the water parameters stable and supports coral health. Also, remember to refill your ATO (auto top-off) reservoir to maintain water levels.
The ideal parameters for a healthy reef tank are as follows: Specific Gravity of 1.026, pH levels between 7.8 and 8.1, Temperature ranging from 78 to 79 °F, Calcium level around 450 ppm, Alkalinity between 9-10 dKH, and Magnesium level at 1350 ppm.
It's best to provide a varied diet. For this tank, the owner feeds a mixture of selcon enriched PE frozen Mysis, cyclopeeze, nutramar ova, and Rod's food. In addition, a pinch of Formula One pellets is given throughout the day.
Always dip your coral frags in a coral dip solution before introducing them to your tank. This helps to eliminate pests that could harm your existing corals and ensures healthier additions to your reef.
Filter socks should be changed regularly, typically every 2-3 days, to help maintain clear water and remove particulate matter from the tank.
Using a sump allows for improved filtration, increased water volume which helps stabilize water parameters, and additional space for equipment such as heaters and protein skimmers. It can also contribute to improving overall aesthetics by keeping equipment hidden away.
