Weekly water changes of about 0.5 gallons (2 liters) are recommended to maintain water quality and nutrient levels. This consistent routine helps reduce the accumulation of waste and replenish trace elements.
Use Tropic Marin sea salt or a similar high-quality salt mix, and consider adding a calcium supplement like Kent Marine Turbo Calcium to maintain optimal calcium levels in the water.
To minimize evaporation, keep your tank covered with a glass top. This will help maintain stable salinity levels and reduce the need for frequent top-offs.
It’s crucial to monitor temperature (around 25C), hardness (8 dKH), calcium (400ppm), and salinity (35ppt or 1.0264sg). Regular testing will help you maintain healthy conditions for your reef inhabitants.
Feed your corals at least once a week with foods like DT's Premium Reef Blend Phytoplankton or Cyclop-eeze. Target feed specific corals such as Blastomussa and Micro-Elegance with tweezers.
You can rotate feedings between frozen mysis shrimp, Ocean Nutrition Formula Two flake food, and Cyclop-eeze. Ensure to hand feed specific corals and shrimp first to prevent them from stealing food meant for other tank inhabitants.
When fragging corals like the micro-Elegance, ensure you have the proper tools and sterilize them to prevent infection. Cut the coral with a clean, sharp blade and place the fragments in a film of water until they attach to a substrate in your tank.
To promote coral growth, ensure they receive adequate lighting and nutrients. Provide a stable environment with regular water changes and feed the corals with appropriate foods to support their health.
In small tanks, it's advisable to keep a few hermit crabs as a cleanup crew due to space constraints and the risks dead snails pose. Monitor their populations and ensure they have enough food and shelter to thrive.
If your fire shrimp is shy, provide periodic target feeding with tweezers to ensure it gets enough food. Be patient and keep the environment stable to encourage its activity.
