I recommend using a high-quality skimmer like the Deltec AP851. It's effective at removing dissolved organic matter, and I believe it's crucial for maintaining water quality.
I use a Sequence DART pump for main circulation, supplemented by a Tunze Stream 6100 and a SEIO 1500. It’s important to find the right balance as too much flow can create a sandstorm, while too little can promote algae growth.
Currently, I use two 400-watt XM 20K metal halide bulbs with Lumenarc III reflectors and supplemental lighting from three 140-watt VHO bulbs. This combo effectively stimulates coral color and growth.
Using a calcium reactor is an efficient way to maintain calcium and alkalinity levels. Once properly set, it requires minimal adjustments. I also supplement with kalkwasser to help maintain pH and provide additional calcium.
I aim for the following parameters: Calcium around 400 ppm, Alkalinity approximately 7.5 dKH, Specific Gravity of about 1.026, pH around 8.23, and a temperature range from 77.4°F to 79°F. Keeping nitrates and phosphates undetectable is also crucial.
Weekly maintenance includes performing a 40-gallon water change and fragmenting any overgrown corals. Regular observation of water parameters is also essential.
I replace the activated carbon monthly to ensure effective filtration. Additionally, I replace kalk powder in the kalk stirrer every month and Rowa phosphate media quarterly.
I prioritize routine maintenance and monitoring parameters. I have daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly rituals to maintain both water quality and flora/fauna health in the aquarium.
The fish are primarily fed Spectrum and Formula 2 pellets. I also give them Cyclop-eeze every two weeks for variety and nutritional benefits.
No special foods are given to the corals. I ensure that the water parameters are optimum, which helps in achieving good health and growth for the corals.
